FSBheaderlogoWe’ve been awarded a cruise at Sea Base in the Florida Keys in April 2017.

The Florida National High Adventure Sea Base is a unique Scouting program that offers aquatics programs found nowhere else.  Our program, the Florida Keys Adventure program, strives to offer as much excitement and variety of activities as possible within a seven-day period.

Scouts must be 13 or older and finished 8th grade by June 2017 to participate.  All participants must pass a scout swim test in a strong manner prior to participating.  Space is very limited and deposits (per scout or adult) are due by end of March, so please contact Mr. Jacquette if you’re definitely interested in going.

(formerly the Cinematography Badge)movie_making

“Moviemaking includes the fundamentals of producing motion pictures, including the use of effective light, accurate focus, careful composition (or arrangement), and appropriate camera movement to tell stories. In earning the badge, Scouts will also learn to develop a story and describe other pre- and post-production processes necessary for making a quality motion picture.”

Scouts are currently working on their script — sounds like a blockbuster!

Troop 149 had a great time at Horseshoe Scout Reservation from August 2-9.

Ten scouts spent the week working on merit badges, singing songs in the mess hall, tubing, shooting, swimming, and drinking Slush Puppies.  Both the Dalek Patrol and Deadpool Patrol earned the Standard Patrol Award while the entire troop earned the Standard Troop Award and the Clean Camp Award.

Thanks to everyone who helped make it a great camp!

Citizenship in the Community!

citizenship_in_the_communityA nation is a patchwork of communities that differ from each other and may be governed differently. But regardless of how local communities differ, they all have one point in common: In the United States, local government means self-government. Good citizens help to make decisions about their community through their elected local officials.

We begin work on this badge on March 2nd.  This badge is one of the 13 required for the Eagle Scout rank.

Also in the works … FENCING!

cavetripWe are preparing for an exciting night in Indian Caverns, the largest limestone cavern in Pennsylvania.

The cavern is a steady 56º Fahrenheit (13º C) all year round, which makes it warmer than camping outdoors at this time of year.

Preparing scouts should refer to the Cavern Camping Packing List.

The Chess Merit Badge!14963875927_b7253e92d9_o

Chess develops critical thinking skills, concentration skills, and decision-making skills — all of which can help you in other areas of your life.  Besides the rules of the game, some of the things we are learning about chess include:

  • History of the game
  • Sportsmanship and etiquette
  • Strategy for opening, middle and end game
  • Scorekeeping
  • How to teach someone else to play

We are currently playing a chess tournament to practice both our strategy and our scorekeeping.
