Boy Scouts of America
Chester County Council
TROOP 149

"A man never stands as tall as when he stoops down to help a child".(Royal Rangers)

Our Organization

Our mission statement is to build character, citizenship and leadership in these young men, by following the main scout principles: Scout Oath and Law and instill in them
a sense of character, responsibility, and confidence.
Troop 149 is led by the scouts under the direction of
the Senior Patrol Leader and the Leadership Committee.
This committee is made up of the Scoutmaster and his
assistants and the Troop Committee.  Our meetings are held
every Monday from 7:00PM until 8:30PM at the Fellowship
Hall of the Bethlehem United Methodist Church, in the scenic
town of West Chester, County Seat of Chester County in
the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Every last Monday,
the PLC (Patrol Leaders Council) holds a 'green bar'
planning meeting
with all the patrol and assistant patrol leaders to set the theme for the month. And every first Tuesday, our troop committee meets to review the direction and status of the program and to plan or review our fundraising efforts, finance status and coordinate troop events.
The troop is divided into several Patrols, with each patrol
having between 6 to 8 scouts.

Why am I a Leader?
  • I'm not a Scout Leader for the easy hours, high pay, parents' gratitude, power or prestige.
  • I'm a Leader because I want the world for your son or daughter or mine.
  • A world they can share and help shape: a world of love and laughter where they can show compassion.
  • I want to help them learn to finish anything they start and do it well and to guide them to know their self-worth with a deeper understanding of themselves.
  • I want to help shape men and women who have strength of character and are sensitive to the needs of others.
  • I want them to be the best they can be - whether as career people or tradesmen, young adults who are the hearts of the family.
  • In giving my time and myself I reap rewards far beyond what I give. I receive a better world for my children and future generations.
I'm a Scout Leader because I care. (unknown)

"One hundred years from now, it will not matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, how much was in my bank account, nor what my clothes looked like. But the world may be a little better because I was important in the life of a child." [Dr. Forest E. Witcraft]

Big "Thank you" to Carlin Coleman-Selby, of Illinois, for pointing out the author of this quote. The quote has changed over the years and has been attributed to 'unknown' or to Dr. Maria Montessori. Dr. Witcraft was an American Scholar and a Scout Executive for the Central South Dakota Council. This quote is as valid today as it was in the early part of the 20th Century!
